New Beginnings

Just One Light - Aug. 28
Two organizations very near to my heart are going through a very similar transition.  Both find themselves going through a renewal; beginning again.  And they are both trying to figure out how to attract new people in order to carry out their mission.  I desperately want to help them.  They are encouraging existing members to invite friends, but I'm not sure how to go about that.  How do you convince someone that they should participate in something brand new that they nothing about?

Koberl at Blue - Jun. 1
Teppan Dinner - Jun. 2
I just want to say:
No, this group is not for everyone, but if you knew what it was really like, you'd love it.  You'd feel just as passionate about it as I do.  But my words can never do it justice.  You just have to take the leap, try it, and trust that I'm right.

Making Sandos - Jun. 3
Beach Cookin' - Jun. 3
Homemade Instagram - Jun. 3
But then what happens if it's not for them? Do I risk losing their trust of my recommendations?  I suppose not, their risk isn't too high.  The two organizations I'm so vaguely making reference to are Camp Seabeck, the family camp that I attend every summer, and Wesley Fellowship, a group for college-aged people asking life's questions and giving back.

Venus Passes Over the Sun - Jun. 5
How about this:  these organizations are things that I'm really excited about and I think you would enjoy them too.  Would you care to join me?

Fasting Day

Lava Cakes in Ramekins - Aug. 20
I spent most of today thinking about food.  I spend a lot of time in general thinking about food because I do love to eat.  However, thinking about food and not being able to eat gives you a fresh perspective.  I decided to fast today and it was HARD.  I've fasted before so I knew what to expect but it didn't make it much easier.  I discovered that I eat a lot of times out of habit.  Or because enjoying something delicious is more entertaining than anything else I can come up with at any given moment.

By the time I had gone 24 hours without eating I had a one-track mind on dinner.  Then I rewarded myself with the dessert pictured at the top.  Mini lava cake (which turned out to be just chocolate cake...oops) and vanilla soft serve.  I probably undid any progress I made today, but it was delicious.  And I enjoyed it, unlike some of the things I eat just to be eating.

Lazy Day

Spike's - Aug. 18
I had a lazy day... although now that I think of it, I got a lot done.  Cooking, cleaning, and grocery shopping.  This evening we were downtown getting Bali's and ran into some of T.J.'s co-workers heading out to celebrate a birthday at Spike's.  I can't quite remember what the above is called but it's something like a friendship ring.  Everyone takes turn drinking out of the same 'mug'.  Another first.

Deliciousness - May 7
My professor brought these in for us in our last days before our final show.  A caterer friend had made them for a party at his house the night before and they were absolutely delicious.  Salted caramel flavor.  Yum.

Model in Process - May 8

Care Package - May 9
In my stressed out craziness, I asked my mom to send me a care package of chocolate.  I was expecting maybe a couple bars, but received all this in the mail.  I was very pleasantly surprised.  Knowing my love of chocolate, you would expect that this would all be long gone, but I still have about a bar and a half left plus the cocoa nibs and the ghost bar.  Not bad considering I was sharing some of it.  (I'm a little afraid of how spicy the ghost bar is going to be so I'm holding off on it.  The regular chili bar was spicy enough. :/)

New Tactic

Reading Material - Aug. 17
I've been disappointed in myself for not keeping up with my photo-a-day.  It's been challenging to find something that inspires me to take photos.  That's a lie.  Actually, it's been difficult to find something that inspires me to take out my camera.  Once the camera is out, I usually have no trouble finding things to take pictures of.  Whether I find them meaningful later is another story.

I'm very behind on editing and posting as well.  It's just overwhelming now.  So here's my new plan of attack.  Less editing at once and more frequent posts.  We'll see if it works.  So above is today's photo.

I'm currently reading the Dick Van Dyke autobiography.  I never really watched his show - before my time, but I really enjoy Mary PoppinsChitty Chitty Bang Bang and his appearances on Scrubs.  I'm only five chapters in but he seems to skip over a lot of things.  Maybe those details just don't make good stories, but then the stories he does tell don't have a lot of detail.  It's almost like in comedy when you jump to the punchline and don't give enough setup.  Kind of ironic.
