Jan. 28 - Shadow Friend

Jan. 30 - January Sunset in SLO
Jan. 30 - Japanese Fusion
Jan. 31 - Family Sans Tibby
I made it through January only having missed one day of photographing.  As far as keeping resolutions goes, I think I'm doing a lot better than most people out there.

You many have noticed that there are two photos for January 30th.  The first is my make-up.  I was working in studio yesterday and I looked up outside and noticed the sun hitting the trees so beautifully.  Thinking there must be a spectacular sunset happening, I grabbed my phone and headed outside.  I wouldn't call it spectacular but it was pretty enough.  My vantage point was not optimal but I like the way the photo came out anyway.

While taking a mental break on Pinterest, I ran across this photo-a-day challenge:

...and I thought, why not?  So look for these subjects starting tomorrow.

Review and Mountains of Food

Jan. 22 - Studio

Jan. 23 - Dinner at Margie's

Jan. 24 - Chunky Sauce

I had my first design review this week.  It didn't go badly, but there were a few "crunchy" moments.  I was basically told that my overall idea for the project was too impractical.  Which is fine.  I'm not so far into it that it sets me back at all, it's just disappointing.

Afterward, my roommate and I tried a new restaurant.  A diner in town that serves mountains of food, delicious food.  Also diners that serve any burger as a veggie burger are awesome in my book.  I often find a limited assortment of pescatarian options on restaurant menus and it was so nice to know that I could choose anything without feeling a bit guilty.

Shakespeare Press Museum

Jan. 17 - Monkey Business
Jan. 18 - 50

Jan. 20 - Cerro San Luis

Jan. 21 - LetterPress

I know I missed Jan. 19.  See the last post.  I haven't figured out how I'm going to make up for it yet but it's coming.

Two of these photos are from the Shakespeare Press Museum.  What is the Shakespeare Press Museum, you ask?  It's this awesome collection of letterpresses of all shapes and sizes on campus.  It's open to ANYONE (so cool) and it's free to use.  My co-worker is a volunteer there and introduced me to it over the winter break and I'm hooked.  This particular project was a birthday card for my Uncle's 50th birthday.  I picked out several different fonts, set the characters by hand, and printed the card (and proofs) myself with the help and advisement of my lovely friend featured in this photo series.  It takes time, but the old printing process is an art and an amazing challenge.  Can you say wedding invitations?

Missed!

Jan. 11 - Chili Dinner

Jan. 12 - My Girl

Jan. 13 - UFO

Jan. 14 - Courtyard Bench

Jan. 15 - Sliced Bread

Jan. 16 - Morro Rock

Yesterday was the first day I missed taking a photo!  It was bound to happen but I didn't even make it a month.  :-(  However, I intend to make up for it.  My book will be complete!!

The more I use Instagram, the more I like it.  Super quick and easy processing if you want a particular look.  The boy isn't a fan but I think it's the social networking part that he's against.  Thoughts?

In other news, I am fully in design mode on my project and as usual it's slow going.  I always have issues coming up with and idea that I really like.  In this case, I have a concept that is awesome, but I can't find a form for actual architecture (kind of important).  But enough procrastinating.  Enjoy the photos.

DSLR vs. iPhone

Some of these are better than others but the important thing is that I'm on track!  More pictures = good.  Some of these are from my awesome DSLR and some of them are from my iPhone.  To anyone who says the iPhone is on par with a pro camera, they can be close but I can totally tell the difference.

Oh and fyi, my cats are like my kids and they make good models so don't be surprised if they make frequent appearances.

Resolutions

First of all, let me say Happy New Year to one and all!  2011 was a wonderful year.  As usual, the highlights for me were the trips that took me to new places and the concerts I attended (I love you Josh Groban!).

Of course, the best thing of all was getting engaged to my boyfriend of four years.  I'm so lucky to have found a best friend who puts up with all my nagging and crazy antics AND who wants nothing more than to spend the rest of his life with me.

Looking forward, 2012 promises to be a very good year!  I WILL finally graduate from college and my fiancĂ© will whisk me off to a new city where he will attend grad school and I will get to start my life in the working world.

My New Year's resolution, which I intend to keep, is to take at least one photo everyday.  I couldn't wait to start so my first shots were taken just after midnight.

I love fireworks and I hate to miss any opportunity to see them.  I was in Seattle to ring in the New Year so despite the crowds and traffic, my parents indulged me and we rushed over to Kerry Park to get a glimpse of the Space Needle in all her glory.   Tall people and some inconveniently placed shrubs presented challenges, but I managed to get some good shots through the trees.

Happy 2012!!
